Sophie Bekkering shows the immensity of nature in her paintings and ceramics. Starting from walks through the forests of the Gelderland province, she has travelled up to and beyond the tree line. Her recent landscapes are composed of elements typical to mountain regions. This untouched alpine environment of trees, rocks and water elements is her field of play.

“I am fascinated by the value nature has for man and it's metaphor for his psyche. The impressive nature of the Alps shows the resiliance and perpetual value of natural processes. This puts the (sometimes destructive) influence of man in nature for me into perspective. The harmonious balance of this inspires me and gives me peace. Nature is under threat from many areas. I recognise that, like myself, people are nowadays searching for a way of life that embraces a better understanding and harmony with nature”

In her paintings her expressive approach on canvas and use of lively color contrasts reveal the underlying forces of the sirene surroundings. These are landscapes you can tune in to and derive energy from.

“I work regularly outdoors, drawing and painting in oil. These works heighten my awareness and relationship to the areals I walk in. Colours represent the power and energy of nature. These are forces I want to capture in harmony.”

Colours and colourcontrasts make the experience of light and space lively and intense. The outdoor experiences become more enhanced on canvas and gain more dimensions.
